Egypt Turns Clocks Back One Hour on October 29th
Clocks will move from midnight back to 11 PM as Egypt ends summer time and returns to GMT+2.
Egypt will turn its clocks back one hour at midnight on Thursday, October 29th, ending summer time and returning to GMT+2 from GMT+3.
At midnight, clocks will move back to 11 PM, meaning the hour before midnight will occur twice before Friday, October 30th begins. This year’s summer-time period started on April 24th under Law No. 24 of 2023, which sets daylight saving time from the last Friday in April until the end of the last Thursday in October.
Air passengers travelling around the time change are advised to confirm departure times with their airlines and make sure phones and other devices display the updated local time. EgyptAir advises passengers to arrive three hours before international flights and two hours before domestic departures, with check-in counters closing 60 minutes before international flights and 30 minutes before domestic ones.
The Ministry of Transport has also adjusted schedules for the Cairo Metro, Light Rail Transit system and East Nile Monorail following the return to standard time.
Daylight saving time was restored in Egypt in April 2023 after several years without seasonal clock changes, with the government citing lower electricity consumption and better use of daylight as reasons for reintroducing the system.
