Egyptian Cyclists to Ride From Giza Pyramids to Makkah

Thirty Egyptian cyclists will set off from the base of the Giza Pyramids on November 6th for a cross-border ride to Makkah as part of an initiative titled ‘Mishwar Al Haram Al Makki by Bicycle’.

Organised by the Egyptian Cycling Federation under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the journey will include male and female riders as well as a participant with disabilities. The Federation said the initiative is intended to present a different model of group travel across borders while bringing together cyclists from several governorates.

The route will begin with a tour of Cairo landmarks before continuing through Ain Sokhna, Al Zafrana, Ras Gharib, Hurghada and Safaga. The riders will then take a ferry to Duba in Saudi Arabia before continuing through Al Wajh, Umluj, Yanbu and Badr, reaching Madinah before heading via Al Yutaymah and Al Akhal to Makkah.

The ride will be supervised by the Federation’s Cycling for All committee, chaired by board member Nada El Naser, with Ehab Hafez Farag leading the group. A wider organising team will support coordination throughout the journey.

The Federation said the route will also pass several tourist sites in Egypt and highlighted the initiative as a sporting and community project linking Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
