Etihad Rail Launches Fujairah-Abu Dhabi Freight Service
The three-times-weekly service moves containers from Fujairah Terminals directly to Abu Dhabi’s main industrial hub for inland clearance.
Etihad Rail and AD Ports Group have launched an integrated freight service connecting Fujairah Terminals with the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, allowing containers to move directly inland for customs clearance, inspection and cargo release.
The dedicated rail service will operate three times a week between the east coast port and Abu Dhabi’s main industrial hub.
Under the new setup, shipping lines and freight forwarders can book the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi as the cargo destination and clearance point instead of completing those procedures at the port. Containers arriving in Fujairah can then be transferred by rail before being inspected and released inland.
The system is designed to reduce extra handling at the quay while moving cargo closer to warehouses, factories and other final destinations in Abu Dhabi.
The partners say the port-to-rail service is intended to improve the movement of high-volume cargo while reducing reliance on long-haul trucking, with potential benefits for road congestion and emissions.
The corridor adds a regular rail option alongside existing sea and road freight routes for goods moving from Fujairah into Abu Dhabi’s industrial areas.
