European Commission Approves EUR 1.5 Billion Budget Support for Egypt
The European Commission has approved EUR 1.5 billion in budget support under a EUR 5 billion macro-financial assistance package.
The European Commission has approved EUR 1.5 billion in budget support for Egypt, marking the latest instalment of the EUR 5 billion macro-financial assistance package agreed under the Egypt-EU Strategic Partnership.
According to Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the funding represents the second instalment of the programme's second tranche. It follows a EUR 1 billion disbursement in January 2026 and an earlier EUR 1 billion tranche approved in 2024, bringing the total approved under the programme to EUR 3.5 billion.
The strategic partnership, endorsed in March 2024, includes macro-financial assistance alongside broader cooperation on investment, migration and regional stability.
The Foreign Ministry said the Commission's decision reflects the strength of the Egypt-EU partnership and supports the country's efforts to maintain economic stability and advance sustainable development. It added that the approval also reflects the European Union's confidence in Egypt's role in promoting regional security and stability.
