Hisham Ghazaly Becomes First Arab to Win Global Oncology Award

Hisham Ghazaly, head of the Egyptian Cancer Society, has received the 2026 Global Oncology Ambassador Award from the Worldwide Innovative Networking Consortium in personalised cancer medicine, becoming the first Egyptian and Arab to receive the recognition.

The award was presented during the consortium’s annual conference in Rhode Island. The Egyptian Cancer Society said the recognition reflects Ghazaly’s work in advancing precision medicine through his leadership of the Faculty of Medicine Research Institute at Ain Shams University.

Ghazaly is also principal investigator of the institute’s Cancer Biobank and Integrated Genomic Solutions project, which links molecular changes in tumours with clinical data to support more personalised approaches to cancer care. Training programmes at the institute also focus on genomics and precision medicine for physicians and researchers.

The conference brought together international figures in cancer research and medicine, including Worldwide Innovative Networking Consortium chair Wafik El-Deiry, Nobel laureate Thomas Südhof, American Association for Cancer Research president Keith Flaherty and former US FDA Oncology Center of Excellence head Richard Pazdur.

The Egyptian Cancer Society also highlighted Ghazaly’s work on collaboration between Egyptian, African and Middle Eastern institutions and the wider oncology community, particularly around improving access to advanced cancer care in low- and middle-income countries.
