House Approves EGP 8.18 Trillion Budget for 2026/27

Expenditures are projected to exceed EGP 5.1 trillion as allocations rise across key areas and debt repayments increase.

House Approves EGP 8.18 Trillion Budget for 2026/27

Final approval has been granted to the government's EGP 8.176 trillion budget for the 2026/27 fiscal year following a plenary session of Egypt's House of Representatives chaired by Speaker Hisham Badawi.

According to the government, the budget is aimed at strengthening spending on essential services, social protection and public investment while continuing to meet the state's financial obligations.

Total revenues, loan repayments, asset sales and other receipts are estimated at EGP 4.175 trillion.

Government expenditures are projected at EGP 5.178 trillion during the 2026/27 fiscal year, compared with EGP 4.574 trillion in the previous year.

Among the largest allocations are EGP 2.419 trillion for interest payments, EGP 832.3 billion for subsidies, grants and social benefits, and EGP 822.8 billion for wages and employee compensation.

The budget also allocates EGP 553.7 billion to public investments and the acquisition of non-financial assets, while EGP 261.1 billion has been earmarked for other expenditures.

Spending on the acquisition of domestic and foreign financial assets is set at EGP 190.3 billion, up from EGP 172.8 billion in the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Meanwhile, allocations for repaying domestic and foreign loans are expected to reach EGP 2.808 trillion, an increase of EGP 723.3 billion from the EGP 2.085 trillion allocated in the current fiscal year.
