Housing Ministry Begins Planting 200,000 Trees in New Cities
The planting programme will bring the total number of trees across Egypt’s new cities to around 1.2 million this year.
The Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities has begun planting 200,000 trees across the country’s new cities this year, taking the total number of trees in those urban centres to around 1.2 million.
The work forms part of a wider greening programme across developments managed by the New Urban Communities Authority.
According to the ministry, 1,903,235 trees had been planted across various new cities by June 30th, 2026 under the presidential ‘100 Million Tree’ initiative.
The ministry also reported maintaining and upgrading more than 55 million square metres of green areas along major roads, entrances and public spaces. Work has included preserving existing trees, expanding irrigation, pruning, pest control and deploying sprinkler and drip irrigation systems.
Housing Minister Randa El Menshawy has directed the Development and Construction Sector at the New Urban Communities Authority to implement an integrated plan to increase afforestation rates across the network of new cities.
