Las Vegas-Inspired Sphere Venue Planned for Yas Island in 2029

Sphere Abu Dhabi, a Las Vegas-style immersive entertainment venue, is scheduled to open on Yas Island by the end of 2029 as the first Sphere venue outside the United States and the second globally. According to the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the USD 1.7 billion project will be built between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.
The venue’s exterior, known as the Exosphere, will feature a spherical LED display designed to function as a large-scale digital canvas visible across Yas Island. Officials stated that the façade is expected to feature work by Emirati artists as part of its programming. The concept behind the venue centres on immersive entertainment experiences combining large-format visuals, advanced sound systems, and environmental sensory effects.
The Las Vegas Sphere, which opened in 2023, includes 580,000 square feet of exterior LED displays, a 160,000-square-foot internal LED media plane, and seating for more than 17,000 people. Its technology systems include 3D audio beam-forming and wave field synthesis designed to create targeted sound distribution throughout the venue, alongside haptic seating, vibration effects, air simulations, and scent elements integrated into performances.
In Abu Dhabi, planned programming categories include Sphere Experiences, concert residencies, and large-scale brand and marquee events. The venue will also be capable of hosting combat sports, conferences, and product launches. Capacity is expected to reach up to 20,000 attendees depending on event configuration.
The site’s location places it near Yas Island’s tourism infrastructure and a short drive from Zayed International Airport. Officials also stated that the structure is expected to become a visible backdrop during the annual Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix broadcasts.
