Mental Health Clinics Expand Across Egypt Under New Initiative

Mental health clinics are being expanded across Egypt as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at integrating psychological care into the public healthcare system.

The programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Health and Population under the ‘Your Health is Happiness’ initiative, in partnership with Viatris Egypt. It focuses on improving access to mental health services while embedding psychological care within broader healthcare delivery.

The expansion includes dedicated hotlines and early detection programmes targeting schools, universities, and workplaces. These efforts are intended to identify mental health conditions at earlier stages and improve intervention outcomes.

According to the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation, specialised national standards for mental health services have been introduced alongside training programmes for healthcare workers.

Psychological care is also being integrated into the universal health insurance system. Services offered through the new clinics include early autism screening, assessments for depression and anxiety, addiction prevention programmes, and counselling for couples, women, and elderly patients.

Mental health support is also being incorporated into the treatment of chronic diseases and cancer.

The initiative has already expanded outreach through screenings and workforce training, while introducing psychological services into primary healthcare units for the first time. Further expansion is planned across all governorates.
