New Public School Inspection Framework Introduced in the UAE

The Ministry of Education, the federal authority overseeing education in the UAE, has introduced a new inspection framework for public schools for the 2025-2026 academic year, setting standards aimed at strengthening oversight and ensuring compliance across school operations.
Implemented through structured inspection visits, the framework is built around four pillars: human resources and professional compliance, educational and academic services, school buildings and facilities, and occupational health, safety and environmental standards.
Under the human resources pillar, schools are required to reinforce national identity by raising the UAE flag, playing the national anthem during assemblies and displaying official leadership portraits. Staff must adhere to the ministry's code of conduct, while schools are required to maintain accurate records, verify professional licences and ensure adequate staffing.
Academic requirements cover curriculum delivery, compliance with the approved academic calendar and access to textbooks and learning materials. Schools must also implement the national child protection policy, maintain confidential records and provide a safe environment for students. The framework requires accessible learning environments and prohibits excluding students on the basis of disability. Schools must also establish behaviour management policies and support digital learning.
Infrastructure standards cover classrooms, laboratories, libraries and accessibility, while buildings must comply with approved plans and cannot be used for non-educational purposes without permission. Health and safety requirements include fire protection systems, evacuation plans, visitor management and first-aid readiness. Additional standards apply to school transport, laboratories, clinics, canteens, sports facilities and swimming pools.
