Postpartum Family Planning Use Reaches 63.4% in Egypt

Postpartum contraceptive use in Egypt reached 63.4% in 2026, according to Deputy Minister of Health for Population and Family Development Abla El Alfi, who presented the figure during a regional population council meeting in Dakahlia.

The meeting formed part of a field visit focused on maternal and child health, during which El Alfi reviewed population indicators and outlined current priorities for the health sector. These include reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, encouraging natural births, limiting unplanned pregnancies, and lowering caesarean delivery rates. She also called for wider access to family planning methods after childbirth and more accurate registration and analysis of neonatal deaths to support improvements in healthcare services.

As part of the visit, El Alfi met with obstetrics, neonatology and paediatrics teams from public and non-governmental healthcare facilities to discuss clinical guidelines, the work of the committee responsible for reducing caesarean deliveries, expanding the role of midwives, applying medical responsibility standards and strengthening incubator services.
