Respiratory Infection ICU Admissions Rise 30% in Saudi Arabia
The Health Ministry said the increase remains within expected seasonal levels and urged eligible groups to receive recommended vaccines.
Intensive care admissions linked to respiratory infections in Saudi Arabia have risen by approximately 30% over the past three weeks compared with the previous period, according to the Ministry of Health. The ministry said the increase coincides with heightened seasonal virus activity and remains within expected levels for the beginning of the respiratory illness season.
The ministry urged eligible groups to receive recommended vaccinations, including those for seasonal influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, with appointments available through the Sehhaty application. It said vaccination can reduce the risk of severe illness and complications associated with respiratory infections.
Preventive guidance also includes regular hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, ventilating enclosed spaces, wearing masks and limiting contact with others when respiratory symptoms appear. The ministry said it is continuing awareness and prevention efforts with health-sector organisations as seasonal infections increase.
