Saudi Arabia Ranked Safest Amongst G20 Countries in 2025

Saudi Arabia ranked first for safety among G20 countries in 2025, according to the General Authority for Statistics, with almost all residents reporting that they feel safe walking alone at night in their neighbourhoods.

The ranking is based on country-reported data in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Indicators Database and comparisons using the 2023 Safety Index.

According to the authority, 97.7% of the population said they feel safe walking alone at night in their residential neighbourhoods.

Among males aged 15 and above, 97% reported feeling safe, including 86% who said they feel very safe and 11% who said they feel somewhat safe. Among adult females, 94.9% reported feeling safe, with 81.7% describing themselves as feeling very safe.

Older adults also reported high levels of perceived safety. Some 97.2% of respondents aged between 60 and 64 said they feel safe walking alone at night, while those aged 65 and above recorded the highest share of respondents who said they feel very safe, at 89.6%.

The General Authority for Statistics said its statistical outputs are produced using a unified methodology based on the Statistical Business Process Manual and aligned with internationally recognised practices adopted by leading statistical organisations.
