Saudi Arabia Reaches 100% Self-Sufficiency in Table Eggs

Saudi Arabia reached 100% self-sufficiency in table eggs and 80% in poultry meat in 2026, according to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. Domestic production rose to approximately 1.4 million tonnes of broiler chicken and more than 9 billion eggs during the year.

The ministry said five initiatives have contributed to localising the poultry industry, improving production efficiency and strengthening the competitiveness of domestic products. The update was announced as the Middle East Poultry Expo 2026 concluded at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center after running from October 4th to 6th.

The fifth edition of the expo also introduced the 2026 Poultry Excellence Award, recognising individuals, companies and partners across categories including social responsibility, international partnerships, biosecurity, and production and processing. Participation in the exhibition has grown from 140 companies representing 30 countries in its first edition in 2022 to more than 400 companies and entities from 45 countries in 2026.

This year’s event included 29 Turkish companies, with Türkiye participating as guest of honour, alongside more than 60 Chinese companies. The expo’s business matchmaking programme recorded more than 400 scheduled meetings focused on investment and partnerships across the poultry sector.
