Saudi-Backed School Opens Registration for Gaza Students

Registration has opened for students to enrol at Makkah School in the southern Gaza Strip, a Saudi-backed initiative established to help Palestinian children resume their education amid the ongoing impact of the war.

Supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), the school forms part of a wider project to establish and operate safe educational spaces for children in Gaza. Specialised teams from the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage, the project's implementing partner in the Gaza Strip, have begun receiving students and their families to process enrolment applications.

The school has been designed to initially accommodate 1,000 boys and girls, supported by 32 teachers, with plans to expand its capacity to 4,000 students.

Ibrahim Ramadan, Director of Education in eastern Khan Younis, described the school's opening as an important step towards rebuilding Gaza's education sector, noting that it adds much-needed classroom capacity at a time when schools across the territory have faced severe disruption.

Alongside its education initiatives, KSrelief continues to provide humanitarian assistance across Gaza. The organisation recently distributed 25,000 hot meals to vulnerable families and individuals in central and southern Gaza as part of Saudi Arabia's broader relief campaign, which also includes shelter, medical supplies and support for essential services. The Kingdom has continued to call for sustained humanitarian access and the restoration of basic services across the Palestinian territory.
