Saudi Foreign Currency Reserves Rise 7.2% to SAR 1.73 Trillion
Saudi foreign currency reserves reached SAR 1.733 trillion in August, up 7.2% from a year earlier.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign currency reserves rose 7.2% year-on-year to SAR 1.733 trillion, or around USD 462.15 billion, at the end of August 2026, according to data from the Saudi Central Bank.
The figure was up from SAR 1.616 trillion, or USD 431.11 billion, in August 2025. On a monthly basis, however, foreign currency reserves declined 0.32% from SAR 1.738 trillion at the end of July.
Total official reserve assets reached SAR 1.827 trillion, equivalent to around USD 487.31 billion, representing a 6.7% increase from SAR 1.712 trillion a year earlier. The total was down 0.27% from SAR 1.832 trillion in July and below the SAR 1.854 trillion recorded at the end of June.
Official reserve assets comprise foreign currency reserves, monetary gold, Special Drawing Rights and Saudi Arabia’s reserve position at the International Monetary Fund.
Special Drawing Rights were valued at SAR 79.37 billion at the end of August, down around 2% year-on-year from SAR 81.01 billion but higher than SAR 78.8 billion in July.
Saudi Arabia’s reserve position at the IMF increased 1.4% year-on-year to SAR 13.34 billion from SAR 13.15 billion, while monetary gold remained unchanged at approximately SAR 1.624 billion.
