Saudi-French AlUla Partnership Extended to 2035
The renewed agreement will continue cooperation on AlUla’s cultural, heritage, tourism, environmental and economic development.
Saudi Arabia and France have extended their strategic partnership for the development of AlUla to 2035, renewing cooperation across cultural, environmental, tourism, economic and heritage projects.
The extension was formalised through an amendment to the existing intergovernmental agreement during Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman’s state visit to France.
The agreement was signed by Culture Minister and Royal Commission for AlUla Governor Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot.
The Saudi-French Ministerial Committee on AlUla also met in Paris to review progress under the partnership and discuss future cooperation across archaeology, arts and culture, sports, hospitality and human-capability development.
Projects linked to the wider partnership include the AlUla Tram and the Sharaan Resort, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, alongside investments in renewable energy, water infrastructure and mobility.
The updated framework is intended to support AlUla’s long-term transformation while preserving its cultural and natural heritage. It also aligns with Vision 2030 objectives for the destination, including attracting international investment and increasing visitor numbers.
