Seha Launches UAE Campaign to Encourage More Women to Give Blood
The yearlong campaign will use outreach and donor recognition to encourage more eligible women to donate.
Abu Dhabi Health Services has launched a yearlong nationwide campaign to encourage more women in the UAE to donate blood and raise awareness of the role voluntary donation plays in medical care. Seha, part of PureHealth, said the initiative will combine women-focused awareness activities, educational outreach, community engagement and donor recognition programmes throughout the year.
Since 2020, 8,599 Emirati women have registered as blood donors, contributing 4,022 donations to support transfusions and emergency care, according to Seha. Health authorities said a more diverse donor base can help reduce the risk of blood supply shortages during emergencies and seasonal declines in donation, with demand spanning different patient groups including women experiencing complications during childbirth.
Donors must generally be aged between 18 and 65, weigh at least 50kg, be in good health and hold an Emirates ID. Tourists and visitors are generally not eligible to donate.
