Sener Awarded Design Contract for Saudi Landbridge Railway
The 1,500km rail project will link Jeddah with Dammam and Jubail.
Sener has been awarded the lead design contract by the Saudi Railway Company for Saudi Arabia’s Landbridge railway, a cross-country project spanning around 1,500km.
The planned network will connect Jeddah on the Red Sea with Dammam and Jubail on the Arabian Gulf, forming a key part of efforts to strengthen logistics infrastructure under Vision 2030.
The project includes approximately 950km of new railway between Jeddah and Riyadh, a 115km link between Dammam and Jubail, and upgrades to existing rail lines across the network.
Passenger trains are expected to operate at speeds of up to 250 km/h, while freight services could reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, reducing transit times between the Kingdom’s eastern and western coasts.
The corridor is designed to improve cargo movement between ports and industrial zones, offering an overland alternative to maritime routes that currently pass around the Arabian Peninsula, including through the Suez Canal.
Sener’s appointment follows a competitive tender launched in 2025, with Italferr continuing its involvement in earlier phases of the project.
