Thunderstorms to Continue Across Saudi Arabia Through Saturday

The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has forecast continued thunderstorms across several regions of Saudi Arabia through Saturday, July 26th, based on projections from the Saudi Numerical Model.

Rainfall is expected to begin on Sunday afternoon with light showers over the southernmost parts of the Asir Region, before conditions clear until Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, moderate rain is forecast to return to southern Asir and the region's northwestern areas before gradually shifting southward and weakening. Lighter showers are expected to spread across southern Asir later in the evening, continuing into the early hours of Wednesday.

By Wednesday afternoon, light to moderate rainfall is forecast across much of southern Asir, extending towards Abha before expanding across the wider region. Scattered showers are also expected in the southwestern parts of the Riyadh Region, while heavier rainfall is forecast for Taif in the Makkah Region.

Conditions are expected to clear by Thursday morning, although rain will return to southern Asir, where showers are forecast to intensify into heavy rainfall. The weather system is expected to extend northwards across Asir and into western Najran and southern Riyadh before gradually weakening overnight into Friday.

On Friday, light scattered showers are forecast across western Najran and much of Jazan, particularly the Farasan Islands. Heavy rain is expected to develop over Abha during the afternoon before spreading across much of Asir. Showers are then forecast to weaken by early evening, with lighter rainfall continuing over Abha, surrounding areas and eastern Jazan into Saturday morning.

The forecast concludes with light rain returning to southern Asir and southeastern Jazan on Saturday afternoon, before strengthening briefly across southern Asir and parts of Najran. The rainfall is expected to gradually weaken and clear later in the evening.
