Transport Ministry Signs Deals for 500 Railcars & Maintenance Firm

The Egyptian National Railways Authority has signed two agreements with the National Egyptian Railway Industries Company to manufacture 500 air-conditioned passenger railcars and establish a company to operate railway maintenance workshops.

The agreements form part of a broader plan to localise transport manufacturing and expand private sector participation in the rail sector.

The first deal covers the local manufacture and supply of 500 passenger coaches, aimed at supporting the modernisation of Egypt’s railway fleet and increasing domestic production capacity.

The second agreement provides for the establishment of a specialised company to manage operations at the Kom Abu Radi railway workshops, handling overhaul, repair and maintenance of different railcar models.

Officials said the move is intended to improve operational efficiency, preserve railway assets and introduce greater private sector involvement in service management.
