Artist Spotlight: Nubi
The Aswan-born rap star reflects on his beginnings, the story behind his name and how he doesn't try to fix into on box.

Hailing from Aswan, Nubi has built a name for himself as one of Egypt’s most distinguished underground rappers. While his earliest forays into rap were shaped by icons like Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., Nubi quickly broke away, developing a niche style, actively pushing Nubian culture into the rap territory, and fusing diverse influences from modern trap and hip-hop to shaabi and afro. His full-length albums ‘Atr El Nom’ and ‘Gezeirt El Feila’, steady flow of collaborations, and relentless stream of singles showcase an artist in constant evolution.
In our latest Artist Spotlight episode, Nubi reflects on his beginnings, his breakthrough moment, and the story behind his name. He also shares with us his creative process and inspiration, how he doesn’t try to box himself in one fixed genre, discussing what it means to be an artist nowadays, the constant challenges he faced to make it to where he is now, and how he tries to go through life day by day.
