French Montana Makes Film Debut 'For Khadija' With Diddy & Drake

The rise to success is marked with trials and tribulations, and French Montana’s story is no different. He’s prepared to put his struggles on full display in his upcoming film ‘For Khadija’. The movie boasts never-before-seen scenes of the recording artist's debut in the rap business, growing up in the South Bronx, and his return to his native country of Morocco.

French’s relationship with Drake is well documented both on social media and musically, the pair have penned a number of tracks together, including ‘Hold me,’ & ‘No Stylist’ to name just a few. So it’s no surprise to see that the film is executive produced by both Drake and Hip-Hop billionaire Diddy.

The movie itself is eponymously named after the rapper's mother; Khadija Guled documenting both the highlights and the lowlights of the rapper's rise to success. “That’s for my mother…you know she came out here and sacrificed for us. My father had left and she stayed, and she helped me become who I became, so I dedicated it to her.”

After moving to America at the age of 13, before his family moved to New York City, the 38-year-old rapper could only speak Arabic and French. There, he learned English as well as Hip-Hop. French was cast into a world as an unregistered immigrant, without papers he was unable to work legally nor continue his studies. Faced with few options he “hit the streets,” to make ends meet he further explained; from substances, weapons to music the rapper has seen it all, “us watching America as kids, they sell you the dream. They don’t show you that behind those buildings, there’s the nightmare part,” said Montana.

'For Khadijah' will have its Tribeca Film Festival debut on June 16th 2023 before going on general distribution.
