Haya Zaatry & Kevork Embrace the Unknown on ‘Before We Leave’
The new track explores uncertainty through dreamy, acoustic textures.
On paper, peering into the unknown may sound daunting and existential, but on their latest collaborative single ‘Before We Leave’, Palestinian singer-songwriter Haya Zaatry and Kevork Estephanian approach the topic with comfort, curiosity, and vivid, dreamlike imagery.
Released via independent Palestinian label Tawleef, the single builds its sonic world out of rich acoustic textures: classical guitars anchored by tactile percussive tapping, bright bursts of pizzicato strings, and suspended piano keys. Lush, sweeping string arrangements eventually lift the song into a higher plane, all balanced by the high-definition clarity of Heba Kadry’s mastering.
As their vocals interlock in a gentle duet, the track settles into a state of surreal wandering. Zaatry and Estephanian use winding lyrical phrasing to lean directly into paradox, turning uncertainty into a place of rest rather than anxiety.
Ultimately, ‘Before We Leave’ offers an open-ended philosophical inquiry in the form of an acoustic indie single - one that finds beauty in staying suspended between the known and the unknown.
