Hiba Tawaji to Perform at Notre Dame Cathedral Reopening Ceremony

Lebanese artist Hiba Tawaji is set to perform at the highly-anticipated grand reopening ceremony of Paris’ iconic Notre Dame Cathedral on December 7th.

In April 2019, a structural fire broke out under the eaves of Notre Dame Cathedral, leaving its wooden roof, spire and upper walls severely damaged. The cathedral has undergone a five-year restoration process that cost over EUR 840 million, and is now set to reopen with a ceremony featuring solemn rituals and grand operatic music.

Tawaji will perform alongside famed sopranos Pretty Yende and Julie Fuchs, as well as Chinese pianist Lang Lang, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Benin-born singer Angelique Kidjo.

In 2015, Tawaji gained prominence in France by participating in the fourth season of ‘The Voice: La Plus Belle Voix’, establishing herself in the Lebanese and Arab music scene with her four-octave vocal range. She was also cast as Esmeralda in the 2016 revival of the musical ‘Notre-Dame de Paris’, and has been performing extensively in Paris and several cities across the globe.

The ceremony will be broadcast on the French public television channel, France 2.
