Mahib Sleat Fuses Hazy Vocals With Atmospheric Beats on New EP ‘ALFAA’

On his latest EP, ‘ALFAA', Egyptian producer Mahib Sleat pays tribute to his friend and retired artist ALFAA, who stepped away from the music scene two years ago following label complications and broken promises. Entrusted with the vocal tracks she recorded before her departure, Sleat crafted the four-track project as a dedicated homage, teaming up with designer IDon’tKnowAisha for the EP’s visual identity.

Across the record, Sleat fuses these vocal recordings into a seamless blend of lo-fi introspection, trap rhythms, and the percussive pulse of Electro Shaabi. Opening with ‘Intro (Icona)’, the EP balances gentle lo-fi keys and low-slung trap beats with laid-back reflections on ambition and isolation. ‘EL SAWAD EL SAMNY’ builds dramatic tension through washed-out vocals, heavy drums, and a driving pop rhythm, while ‘Radarat’ pairs warm organ chords with an aggressive, high-energy Shaabi groove.

The project closes with ‘Sa7la’, a submerged lo-fi track driven by intricate flows over active percussion. That tension between atmosphere and impact drives ‘EL SAWAD EL SAMNY’. Opening on pitched, washed-out vocal fragments suspended over heavy drum hits, the track steadily builds texture around an autotuned line. A poppier, driving rhythm eventually cuts through the fog, mirroring the track’s theme of mutual attraction with an underlying dramatic edge.
