Tunisian Label Eddisco Returns With Second VA ‘Eddiscology Vol.2’
The VA brings together six of the finest electronic music producers from Tunisia, Lebanon and Egypt.
Eddisco Records, a Tunisian-bred record store and independent label that has been considered one of the most progressive labels in the MENA region, returns with a second VA compilation album, ‘Eddiscology Vol.2’.
The six-track record brings together a slew of distinctive electronic music producers from Tunisia, Lebanon and Egypt, exploring the colourful spectrum of house music and its endless subgenres.
Egyptian DJ and producer ANNUN, who has been a fixture in the Starborg dance circuit over the last 10 years, kicks off the album with ‘Stargazing’, an upbeat feel-good house track with an infectious funky bassline that stays within the mix till the end of the track. It’s followed by Moncef Sounds’ signature French-tinted sound in ‘Dancing Around’ –a nominal groove that combines the rhythmic flow of minimal house with catchy melodies of funk-based disco samples, leaving you compulsively shazam-ing for the ID track.
Eddiscco head honcho Hamdi Ryder hops on production duties for the third track ‘Rewind Selecta’, adding more colour to the album with a nostalgic 90s sound. The track is more fast-paced than the others with a steady unrelenting rhythm pattern featuring a bass drum hitting on every beat.
Lebanese mogul Nesta takes reign on the fourth track ‘Chronic’ with his distinct mix of deep and minimal house, where elements borrowed from numerous genres subtly modulate, and layers are added up smoothly in a way that is distinctly Nesta’s. Meanwhile, Khemir’s ‘Celestial’ and Mood’s ‘Funky Music’ close the compilation with a hypnotic blend that draws from the funkiness of tech-house and the uplifting vibe of peak-time minimal.
