AD: Your Guide to a Dual Degree at The British University in Egypt

For many students, choosing a university comes down to one question: where will this degree take me? At The British University in Egypt, the answer starts with a qualification recognised both at home and abroad.

Every student graduates with two qualifications through the University's Dual Degree model: an Egyptian degree validated by the Supreme Council of Universities and a British degree awarded through one of the university's UK partners, including London South Bank University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Queen Margaret University and Cardiff Metropolitan University. Meanwhile, the Faculties of Dentistry and Pharmacy are academically quality assured by Queen's University Belfast.

That global outlook starts with academic standards. The University was the first university in Egypt and North Africa to receive institutional accreditation from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the independent body that monitors quality across British universities. It's also one of only two universities in Egypt to hold international accreditation at the institutional level, meaning its programmes are benchmarked against the same standards used across UK higher education.

Whatever direction students have in mind, chances are there's a faculty for it. The University is home to 13 undergraduate faculties covering everything from dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and physiotherapy, arts and humanities, business and economics, political science and media to law, art and design, engineering, renewable energy, and informatics and computer science. The university's motto, "Learn How to Think, Not What to Think," shows up in the way students learn too. Dentistry students work with real patients in a 400-seat dental clinic, finance students analyse live markets in a 23-screen Financial Lab, while engineering students test ideas using the only wind tunnel on an Egyptian university campus.

It's also a campus built around student life outside the lecture hall. More than 13,000 students study at the University, supported by Egypt's first dedicated Student Life Centre, where everything from academic support, careers and wellbeing services to campus life has been brought under one roof, with every service available both in person and online.

Among the University's newest additions is the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, arriving at a time when Egypt's tourism sector is expanding and the demand for globally trained talent is only growing. Students can specialise in Events Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism & Sustainable Tourism Management, or Cultural Heritage Management, while completing internships throughout the programme and building direct connections with leading employers.

The degree takes three years to complete and is delivered in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University, allowing graduates to leave with both Egyptian and British qualifications. Students joining the inaugural cohort will also receive an EGP 100,000 scholarship funded by industry partners, available across all three years of study.

The approach appears to be paying off. Around 87% of the University graduates move into meaningful careers after graduation, rising to 93% among alumni aged 30 and above.

Applications for the 2026/2027 academic year are now open, with the University welcoming prospective students and their families to its Open Day on August 4th to explore the campus, meet faculty members and get a closer look at its undergraduate programmes.
