Aseel Osama Wins Historic Gold for Egypt at World U20 Championships
Earlier in 2026, Osama won the African women’s javelin title with a 60.97m throw, taking the title at just 18 years old.
Egyptian athlete Aseel Osama has won gold in women’s javelin at the World Athletics U20 Championships, securing Egypt’s first-ever medal at the competition.
The 18-year-old won the title with a throw of 59.82 metres. Croatia’s Vita Barbic took silver with 56.60m, while Taiwan’s Tai Yu Chen claimed bronze with 54.27m. The result adds to Osama’s successful 2026 season. Earlier this year, she won the African women’s javelin title with a 60.97m throw at the age of 18. That mark also placed her among the leading young throwers with potential at senior level. Had her 60.97m throw been recorded at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, it would have placed her 12th in the women’s javelin final.
Osama is now expected to compete at next year’s World Athletics Championships in China, where she will face senior competitors in the discipline.
