Egypt Named Host of 2028 Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships

Egypt is officially taking over the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships, with Dr. Ehab Amin, President of the Egyptian and African Gymnastics Federations, receiving the hosting flag from World Gymnastics President Morinari Watanabe at the closing ceremony of the 2026 edition in Pamplona, Spain.

The 19th edition wrapped up on September 13th, with more than 350 athletes from 38 delegations competing across eight world titles.

Athletes compete in individual men's and women's events, mixed pairs, trios, groups, Aerobic Dance and Aerobic Step.

Held every two years since 1995, Cairo will host the 20th edition from September 29th to October 1st, 2028, alongside the Junior World Championships and World Youth Competitions from September 22nd to 24th. The event will mark the first time the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships have been held in Africa.

The hosting also highlights the rapid growth of the discipline in Egypt. Aerobic Gymnastics was not part of Egypt's gymnastics programme around seven years ago, but the federation now has around 15,000 registered aerobic gymnasts, with Egypt ranked seventh globally in the discipline.
