Emirates Announces New Initiative for Travellers with Special Needs

Emirates Airlines has introduced a new initiative aimed at enhancing the travel experience for individuals with special needs. The program, which offers a pre-travel rehearsal for people of determination, is designed to provide support and assistance to travellers with autism and sensory disorders. By offering guided tours of airport facilities and aircraft cabin environments, Emirates aims to empower families and individuals to better prepare for air travel.

As part of the inaugural launch, Emirates invited 30 UAE-based families with neurodiverse children to experience a simulated check-in process and trial flight at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport (DXB). Led by specially trained staff, participants gained valuable insights into the in-flight experience, with the aim of informing the development of an official autism-friendly in-flight certification in collaboration with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).

The event, attended by Hessa BuHumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority of Dubai, highlighted the airline's commitment to inclusivity and autism awareness. Children from various neurodiverse centres in Dubai, including the Dubai Autism Centre and Rashid Centre for People of Determination, participated in the program alongside their caregivers.

Throughout the journey, participants received dedicated assistance from Emirates staff, ensuring a seamless and supportive travel experience. From priority check-in and security lanes to in-flight service and announcements, every aspect of the journey was tailored to accommodate the needs of neurodiverse individuals.
