‘Hike for Your Wellbeing’ at Wadi Degla Protectorate This Ramadan

To some, the Holy Month of Ramadan is a period of peace and self-reflection - and what better place for it than in the serene wilderness of Cairo’s Wadi Degla Protectorate? As part of their continuous mission to promote ecotourism across the country, The Ministry of Environment and Eco Egypt are hosting eight hiking trips through the protectorate in partnership with mountaineer Sherief El Abd.

Taking place every Wednesday and Saturday throughout Ramadan, the hike will begin an hour before iftar, and end an hour after. There will be a rest period for hikers to break their fast during iftar.

The hikes will also host professional athletes and environmental experts as guest speakers, including mountaineer Manal Rostom, environmentalist and project manager of Eco Egypt Mohamed Elewa and Olympic athlete Hadia Hosny. The speakers will lead a conversation with hikers about their experience with mental health and share tips on how they approach physical and mental well-being.

The hikes will help shed light on the important relationship between physical and mental health, and fund efforts by NGOs and associations in the Red Sea area to support local communities who live in South Sinai and Wadi El Gemal’s protectorates. For every kilometre you hike, Sherief El Abd will make an EGP 10 donation to the Abu Ghosoun Association and the Hemaya Association.

Registration for ‘Hike for Your Wellbeing’ is open to adults over 16 years old, and is available on Eco Egypt’s Instagram account at @ecoegyptexperiences and El Abd’s at @sherief82.
