This Tiny Desert Museum in Egypt Holds 40 Million Years of History

Zowara Ecolodge's Nature and Culture House is a small museum in the middle of the Fayoum desert, far from the urban buzz of Cairo. It isn't where you'd expect to find 40-million-year-old fossils, Roman funerary art or the story of an ancient relative of the elephant, but that's exactly what makes it so special.
The museum exists because camp owner Hani Zaki believed Fayoum's history deserved to be preserved and remembered. With care, he collected handicrafts and curated historical information. Together, they tell the story of the people and natural history of Fayoum, spanning tens of millions of years.
