18% of Egyptians Smoke Around 100 Billion Cigarettes Per Year

Recent estimations put Egyptians smoking around 100 billion cigarettes annually, with around 18% of them being smokers, according to Eastern Tobacco Company. This corresponds closely with the statistics of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics which put the number of estimated smokers in the country at around 18 million in May 2021.

The announcement was released in the midst of meetings between the government and the company to discuss its production capabilities, in light of a recent surge in cigarette prices in the country. As Egypt’s biggest manufacturer of tobacco products, Eastern Tobacco Company also announced that its offerings will once again become readily accessible to merchants in the coming weeks.
