In a continuous effort to form a closer connection with their African neighbours, the Egyptian government has just agreed to make one of those connections a lot more literal. Egypt has recently discussed the terms of a new railway linkage project with Sudan, bridging Aswan with the Sudanese city of Wadi Haifa, located near their northern border.
Similar projects have also been discussed recently, such as a land road passing through Sudan to connect Egypt with Chad. As with the railway linkage project, these enterprises are hoped to serve as a gateway for job opportunities, development, and trade between Egypt and Sudan, and even further beyond with the nations of West Africa.
