The office of Egypt’s General Prosecutor
released a statement announcing that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the alleged perpetrators of the 2014 gang rape known as the #FairmontIncident.
The incident first came to light on social media and has served to
further catalyze Egypt’s long-overdue reckoning against systemic sexual
harassment and assault.
According to the General Prosecutor’s statement, “the accused have been placed under a travel ban list, and are expected to undergo questioning and investigations once placed in custody.”
