Government Building Mogamma El Tahrir to Receive Complete Overhaul

Mogamma El Tahrir, the 70 year old government building in the heart of Tahrir Square, is getting a complete makeover. If the mention of this concrete monolith makes you wince in remembrance of day-long errands in cramped hallways, you’re one of many who can let out a sigh of relief.

The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) seeks to partner up with developers and investors to finance the redevelopment of the Mogamma into a multi-use building. So far, the overhaul plan will be based on equipping the giant building for many uses, whether it’s as a business centre, a cultural hotspot, or a hotel.

All current government offices are expected to be vacated by early 2021, as part of a larger move of government operations to the New Administrative Capital. Final details regarding the redevelopment of the Mogamma are expected to be announced by the third quarter of 2021.
