Album Spotlight: Samar Tarik - Far2 Taw2eet

Egyptian singer-songwriter Samar Tarik has made her mark on the region’s music scene by blending her nostalgic, classically influenced vocals with modern electronic elements and contemporary soundscapes. But with her latest EP, ‘Far2 Taw2eet’, the artist takes a different path, stripping back the electronic influences in favor of live instrumentation and arrangements to tackle something deeply personal - the five stages of grief.

Following the tragic loss of a friend, Samar’s healing process became the foundation of the EP, where each track dives into one of the stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. This structure enables the project to reflect her emotional journey, capturing her experiences shortly after they took place.

In this SceneNoise interview, Samar delves into the symbolism and storytelling behind each track, sharing the tumultuous path she navigated while conceptualizing and writing the album. She cites one of her inspirations, particularly during the stage of acceptance, as Nikos Kazantzakis’ ‘Zorba the Greek’. The novel’s contrast between the pessimistic young man who takes his fortune for granted and the joyful elder who finds contentment in a simple life mirrored her own emotional evolution throughout the project.
