Egyptian Film 'My Brother, My Brother' Wins Best Animation at AMAA
Since premiering at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, ‘My Brother, My Brother’ has travelled to more than 50 festivals across all continents and collected over 10 awards.
‘My Brother, My Brother’ has won Best Animation at the Africa Movie Academy Awards 2025.
The autofiction animation explores the intertwined inner world of identical twins Omar and Wesam through a dual narrative that presents two versions of their shared memories — from being fused in the womb to being separated by loss — allowing dreams, recollections and imagined moments to overlap until the boundaries between memory and fiction dissolve.
“We initially started writing this film after the loss of our mother, and our urge to process what led to that moment," said director Abdelrahman Dnewar. "Now the story continues to be about the loss of my twin brother Saad, my other half, and co-creator of this film. It is Saad’s remaining legacy. Determined to continue this journey for both of us, I want to preserve his memory and the intimate moments I shared with him in this film."
Since premiering at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, ‘My Brother, My Brother’ has travelled to more than 50 festivals across all continents and collected over 10 awards. Its latest recognition strengthens its momentum as it progresses through its Oscars campaign, where the team aims to secure a place on the Academy shortlist.
