Frans Smit's Contemporary Portraits Twist Tradition at Lift Gallery

Internationally-acclaimed contemporary artist Frans Smit’s exhibit at Riyadh’s Lift Gallery, ‘MIDDLE/SOUTH’,  challenges its viewers to reconsider the relevance and possibilities of well-known works.

Smit’s signature style layers portraits painted in the traditional style of the Dutch old masters with contemporary techniques. By blending these styles from multiple schools and eras, Smit offers commentary on the enduring impact of the past as well as the possibility that comes with innovation. This collection features a series of portraits inspired by the Middle East, and has garnered acclaim at art fairs around the world.
