MedFest Honours Silver Screen Icon Sawsan Badr

Running September 14th to the 17th, this year’s edition of MedFest Egypt - a film festival showcasing works that focus on health-related social issues - will honour Egyptian actress Sawsan Badr. With a versatile career spanning cinema, theatre and television, Badr’s legacy casts a profound influence on Egypt’s artistic landscape.

Dubbed the ‘Nefertiti of Egyptian Cinema’, Sawsan Badr’s four-decade career has inspired audiences across the MENA region, starring in over 300 productions from her debut in ‘Habibi Da’eman’ (1980) to her more recent roles in ‘El Farah’ (2009), ‘678’ (2010) and ‘Finding Ola’ (2022).

MedFest is a platform that converges the worlds of filmmaking and health awareness, where attendees will be able to watch thought-provoking films, and partake in insightful workshops and conversations about the intersection between art and health.  This year’s festival will focus on the theme of ‘Stigma’, which aligns seamlessly with Badr's commitment to shaping perceptions and fostering dialogue on critical social issues through her work.
