New Anime Series ‘Grendizer U’ Showcases Saudi Arabia
The series is part of a partnership between Saudi Arabia’s Manga Productions and Japan’s Dynamic Planning.
Saudi Arabia’s Manga Productions, a subsidiary of the Mohammed bin Salman MiSK Foundation, has announced the release of the new anime series ‘Grendizer U’, in July 2024, made in partnership with Japanese licensing company Dynamic Planning.
The new Grendizer series reprises a 50-year old story line from the original ‘UFO Robot Grendizer’ show, which aired in the mid-70s. Fans of the show (and giant robots in general) were given a taste of what to expect when Manga Production released the video game ‘UFO Robot Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves’ in 2023.
The announcement came in the form of the show’s first official trailer, which teased several new details - including settings in Paris and various regions of Saudi Arabia. The characters and giant robots for which the show is so famous have also received a 21st-century makeover, whilst maintaining the series’ original atmosphere.
As ever with anime, the show is expected to attract an international audience, and as such the trailer was released in four languages - Arabic, French, Italian, and English.
