Perform Sharjah Spotlights Theatrical Flair From Around the Globe
From October 2024 to January 2025, Perform Sharjah brings new performances from regional and international artists.
Perform Sharjah, a series of performances by regional and international troupes hosted by Sharjah Art Foundation, is currently running until January 2025.
The third season of Perform Sharjah began with Sulayman Al Bassam's ‘Mute’, a performance inspired by the 2020 Beirut port explosion, followed by Malicho Vaca Valenzuela's ‘Reminiscencia’, which examines themes of love, revolution and the isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other performances include Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige's ‘The Vertiginous Story of Orthosia’, which tells the story of the discovery of ancient ruins beneath the Nahr al Bared refugee camp in Lebanon, and Nacera Belaza's ‘La Nuée’, a dance piece set in darkness, where the movement of the dancers is illuminated by precise lighting.
In mid-December, the focus shifts to contemporary productions that incorporate elements of Arab theatre. One of the performances, Nicolas Fattouh's ‘Living with a Piece of Furniture’, combines comedy and personal storytelling to explore themes of family, memory, and loss.
The season will also feature Solos on the Barge, an interactive event staged on a floating platform in Sharjah Creek. Artists, actors, poets, and writers will present a marathon of solo performances, further emphasising Sharjah's role in the contemporary arts scene.
