Photopia & DMJX Open Call For Documentary Photography Programme

The Danish School of Media and Photojournalism (DMJX) has opened applications for a new documentary photography workshop programme in partnership with Cairo-based photography school Photopia.

Funded by the Danish Embassy in Cairo, the programme will select 10 to 12 emerging and mid-career Egyptian photographers to take part in a year-long learning track.

Participants will attend four intensive workshops, each lasting between three and five days, led by instructors from DMJX. Alongside structured teaching, photographers will work on individual assignments and develop a long-term documentary project through one-on-one mentoring.

The programme will cover key areas including journalistic portraiture, photojournalism ethics, and writing for visual storytelling. Upon completion, participants’ projects will be published in a joint magazine hosted on DMJX Photojournalism’s website, followed by a public exhibition in Cairo scheduled for November 2026.

Applications close on February 10th, with the first workshop set to take place in May 2026.
