Sheikh Hamdan Launches ‘Rashid Villages’ in Memory of Late Brother

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has launched 'Rashid Villages,' a global humanitarian initiative honouring the legacy of his late brother, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Unveiled on the tenth anniversary of Sheikh Rashid’s passing, the initiative will establish model villages worldwide to provide housing, healthcare, education, and social services for underprivileged families.

The first Rashid Village will be built in Kenya on 7.2 hectares, designed with sustainability in mind and powered by renewable energy. It will feature fully furnished homes, a mosque, a multi-purpose hall for 500 people, and endowment-based commercial outlets to stimulate local economic activity. Youth development is central to the project, with a football pitch, sports academy, and vocational training programmes planned.

Education will be provided through the Rashid Education Project, in partnership with the Digital School under Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, offering digital learning and a modern school for over 320 students. The village will also include a healthcare centre, sanitation systems, and preventive medical services, supporting around 1,700 people.

Following Kenya, a new Rashid Village is set to be developed every year, ensuring Sheikh Rashid’s humanitarian legacy continues to impact communities globally.
