Egyptian children’s book illustrator and artist Walid Taher has been shortlisted for the 2026 Hans Christian Andersen Award, widely regarded as the highest international distinction in children’s literature.
Among his notable children’s book works are illustrated titles such as ‘Ana Mish Khayfan’ and ‘Al-Bayt’, alongside a wide body of picture books published in Egypt and internationally.
Across these projects, Taher’s illustrations are recognised for their expressive line work, restrained colour palettes, and ability to communicate complex feelings through minimal visual cues.
The Hans Christian Andersen Award is presented biennially and is considered the most prestigious global honour in children’s literature, recognising creators whose work has made a lasting contribution to the field. Earlier in 2025, Egyptian author Rania Hussein Amin, known for her book series 'Farhana', was nominated for the award.
