Egypt Leads in Global Startup Awards' North African Edition
The Global Startup Awards is the world’s largest independent startup competition.
Egyptian startups and entrepreneurs triumphed at this year's North African edition of the Global Startup Awards (GSA), securing 11 trophies and making them the region’s top winners. Notable achievements include Egypt’s Jadeed Climate Tech, which was named Startup of the Year, and Best in the Mobility & Logistics category. Neqabty was recognized as Best Newcomer, and NoorNation was awarded GreenTech Startup of the Year.
Edventures received the Investor of the Year accolade, while Nabil Shalaby, founder of Arab Entrepreneur House (ARENHO), was honoured as Ecosystem Hero of the Year. The Best Accelerator/Incubator Program award went to Athar Accelerator, and Sector B5 was named Best Coworking Space. PharmacyMarts earned the title of HealthTech Startup of the Year, AgriCash was recognized as Best AgriTech, and Ultrateb was named Youth Startup of the Year.
The Global Startup Awards, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, is the largest independent startup ecosystem competition. Active in over 120 countries, the awards help startups gain international visibility and provide a platform to connect companies with investors.
This year, the competition saw its highest number of entries, with 13% of the 11,949 entries hailing from North Africa, amounting to a 22% increase since 2023.
“African entrepreneurs are paving the way for the continent's future, and this year's competition has highlighted this brilliantly,” said jury member Guido Schwartz. “The diversity in business ambitions is impressive, and beyond AgriTech, education, and fintech solutions, sectors like pharmacy, eMobility, and aerospace are starting to play a stronger role. These startups are making significant impacts in their communities, countries, regions, and beyond.”
The 14 continental best startup winners will compete at the GSA Africa Summit, hosted this October by Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. The winners of the pan-African competition will then progress to competing on the global stage in 2025.
