Kemet-X Brings Global Startup Ecosystem to the Pyramids Dec.14th-15th

Egypt’s startup ecosystem has grown into one of MENA’s most active and innovative, yet its connections to the wider region and global markets remain a work in progress. Kemet-X is being built around that gap. Taking place on December 14th-15th, the event will bring founders, investors, corporates, government stakeholders and innovators together at the Great Pyramids of Giza, with the aim of turning Egypt into a meeting point for ideas, capital and businesses looking to cross borders.

The event is set to bring together over 200 speakers and 200 investors and VCs from 50-plus countries. More than a gathering of the local startup ecosystem, Kemet-X wants to give Egypt a role as a gateway between the Middle East, Africa and international markets.

Behind Kemet-X is Career 180, an Egyptian innovation platform connecting young talent, startups, investors, corporates and ecosystem enablers to create opportunities, foster innovation, and drive regional economic growth. The company boasts offices in four continents and a reach that has seen it operate in 12 countries. Its the company's work in entrepreneurship and international networking, building relationships across markets that now underpin Kemet-X.

The idea began during a visit to Web Summit Lisbon. For Career 180, seeing the scale of the event - and the economic activity it generates for its host country - prompted a bigger question about what Egypt could create at home. Shrouk Alaa Eldin, co-founder and Managing Director of Career 180, was one of those inspired in Portugal.

“Seeing how a single event drives a country's economic activity - generating nearly €5 billion annually - made us realise Egypt needed an event of equal calibre,” she tells StartupScene. “Egypt has always been a pioneer in innovation across Africa, boasting a strong economy and substantial venture capital.”

That ambition is grounded in Career 180’s experience delivering large-scale initiatives. Among them is the International Research Commercialisation Expo - held under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, with the attendance of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research - and bringing together stakeholders from more than 68 countries. Career 180 has also built its experience in large-scale events such as Egypt Career Summit, which has endured for almost a decade, attracting more than 100,000 visitors annually. It has proven such as success, that the summit has been scaled to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Europe, while also expanding to West Africa and Oman.

But Kemet-X isn’t entering a barren landscape. The region already has established platforms bringing together founders, investors, corporates and government stakeholders, from major technology conferences to more specialised ecosystem gatherings. The opportunity, as Alaa Eldin sees it, is to go beyond replicating those formats by putting cross-market connections and global representation at the centre of the event.

“Kemet-X represents the global ecosystem,” she explains. “Yes, ecosystem events exist, but global representation and cross-market connections have diminished recently. We aim to serve as that global platform - a central hub in Egypt where people gather and professionals.”

That ambition is already taking shape in Kemet-X’s partnership strategy. The team has been building relationships with government bodies and venture capital networks across Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman and even the US and Azerbaijan, prioritising organisations that can offer startups something more tangible than visibility - from mentorship and market access to scaling opportunities and investment.

The venue reinforces the event’s central idea. Kemet-X will take place at the Pyramids of Giza in partnership with Orascom, placing a contemporary innovation gathering against one of Egypt’s most enduring symbols of ingenuity - what Alaa Eldin describes as “the ultimate historical symbol of innovation in Egypt.”

The programme is built around three core tracks: ‘Business & Entrepreneurship’, ‘Tech’ and ‘Creative’. The first will focus on business development, operations, investor insights and practical knowledge to support growth. The Tech track will explore technical advancements and specialised areas, including dedicated content around women in technology, drawing on Career 180’s regional experience across Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Europe. The Creative track, meanwhile, will cover branding, marketing, positioning and identity.

Together, the three tracks are intended to give founders a fuller picture of what it takes to scale, bringing industry expertise and investor perspectives together with practical knowledge around go-to-market strategies and international expansion. The real test of Kemet-X, however, begins after the event. Career 180 has no interest in Kemet-X becoming another conference where attendees exchange business cards before moving on to the next item on the calendar. The value will be measured by what those encounters set in motion.

“We do not want Kemet-X to be a one-off conference where attendees simply network and leave,” Alaa Eldin says. “Our focus is on measuring the real value generated after the event - including investments closed, partnerships formed and long-term collaborations established.”

That means tracking tangible outcomes, from investments and partnerships to longer-term collaborations, while keeping those relationships active through post-event activations, meetups and targeted interventions. The same principle extends to international expansion. Kemet-X aims to create a two-way route between Africa and international markets - giving Egyptian startups greater access to opportunities abroad while making it easier for international companies to explore Egypt and Africa - a problem Alaa Eldin believes Kemet-X can solve.

“Egyptian startups often take a long time to consider scaling abroad; conversely, global startups need a frictionless pathway to scale into Egypt and Africa, leveraging our massive user base and competitive operational costs,” she explains. “Kemet-X exists to bridge those global connections.”

For Kemet-X, that exchange is the foundation for becoming more than an annual gathering. The longer-term ambition is to build a world-class platform where learning and networking translate into investment, market access and international expansion.

Ultimately, success comes down to whether the event creates opportunities that would not have existed otherwise. An investor, a new market, a strategic partner or simply the right introduction - for Alaa Eldin, each one could represent a meaningful next step for a growing business.

“We will know the event was successful when attendees leave having built the exact network they need to take the next step in their business.”
