AUC Renames Business School After Businessman Onsi Sawiris
After receiving a record USD 30 million donation from the Sawiris family, The American University in Cairo has renamed its business school to the Onsi Sawiris School of Business.
The American University in Cairo (AUC) has announced a USD 30 million donation from the Sawiris family, marking the largest philanthropic gift in the university's history. In recognition of the contribution, AUC's business school will be renamed the Onsi Sawiris School of Business, honouring the legacy of the late founder of Orascom Group, Onsi Sawiris.
The donation will fund a variety of initiatives aimed at enhancing the university’s business programs. Key areas of focus will include scholarships for deserving students, a new professorship in artificial intelligence and data science, and expanded opportunities for academic exchange with leading US universities, including the University of Chicago.
The funds will also help establish an AI research initiative, positioning the school to further enhance its technological and academic capabilities in a rapidly changing global economy.
The Sawiris family has a long history of supporting AUC, including contributions to scholarships for students from Upper Egypt, women's empowerment initiatives, and the renovation of the historic Tahrir Square campus.
