Aswan & Suez to Get Comprehensive Health Insurance in October
The comprehensive healthcare plan will now be available to families in a total of six governorates.
Starting the new fiscal year 2024-2025, which begins on the first of October, the governmental comprehensive health insurance plan will be extended to include two more governorates: Aswan and Suez.
Comprehensive health insurance was previously applied to the governorates of Port Said, Ismailia, Luxor, and South Sinai. In only the aforementioned areas, the insurance plan has allocated benefits to 4.6 million citizens to date. The Ministry of Finance reported that EGP 2.8 billion were shouldered in contributions for those unable to pay for the insurance.
The health insurance project is expected to be a fundamental tool in reforming the healthcare sector in Egypt. It is set to provide integrated healthcare coverage for all family members, including all diseases, surgical interventions, laboratory tests, radiology, cancer treatment, organ transplantation, prosthetic devices, visual and auditory aids, dental treatment, therapeutic and complementary foods, and more.
According to the Minister of Finance, the insurance project has acquired the funds necessary to develop according to its intended timeline, having amassed total reserves of approximately EGP 120.7 billion.
